T5. Enhancing Your Leadership Skills: How to Be a Strategic Partner While Helping Your Organization Implement Better Information Governance
As leaders and managers in the Information Governance (IG) field, we focus on building effective information management programs and mitigating IG-related risks. At the same time, our roles as IG professionals have become more critical to supporting the business strategy, as our business colleagues are increasingly dependent upon nimble information systems that must also be secure. Many of us are now taking on leadership roles with little or no training or experience in managing teams or leading initiatives, even as our role has become essential to the success of the entire organization. Our professional expertise has brought us to this point, but are we truly prepared to lead and influence others to drive change in the organization? Are we spending enough time considering and improving our own effectiveness as leaders?
KEY ISSUES THIS PRESENTATION WILL ADDRESS
Our roles as IG professionals have become critical to supporting business strategy, but our professional experience and expertise are only part of an overall toolkit necessary for effective Information Governance oversight and risk management. We must also have the skills and strategies for heightening awareness, influencing and leading others, and driving change.
In this session, through lecture, individual and collaborative exercises, we will explore some key leadership principles and skills that you can use to more effectively manage Information Governance risks. Using the world-renowned Gallup StrengthsFinder® 2.0 online assessment*, you will also learn how to leverage your personal strengths to more effectively achieve your Information Governance objectives, leading to greater personal satisfaction in your work. Most importantly, you will learn how to become more proficient in applying leadership skills and strengths to develop practical and sustainable IG processes and systems, and how to more positively impact behavior within your organization. Effective leadership of IG oversight and risk management requires enhancing your professional expertise with a broader toolkit of skills and strategies for influencing and leading others, along with an understanding of how your personal strengths can enhance your individual potential for success.
The target audience for this pre-con session includes Chief Information Officers, Information Governance professionals, Information Security professionals, RIM Directors and Managers, and Corporate Counsel supporting Information Governance, Security and Risk Management.
