The technologies and applications of both enterprise content and records management (ECRM) are compelling challenges. Additionally, these developments are making the "whole" of ECRM much greater than the sum of its "parts", including:
- Consolidation and ongoing maturation of the ECRM vendors
- Recent developments in infrastructure technologies
- Office 2007 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS 2007)- and the compelling potential solutions they provide to solving two specific problems that have plagued large organizations: file shares and e-mail
With the added solution capabilities resulting from these developments, organizations addressing the challenge of ECRM now have an unprecedented and unique opportunity to achieve success.
This pre-conference tutorial will define:
- Role of overall ECRM strategy
- Methodologies to use and their benefits
- Use of case templates and reference architecture to achieve integrated ECRM in large organizations
The tutorial will address how legal discovery, records management, and the incorporation of content from e-mail and file shares are integrated into document life-cycles and ECRM repositories. Attendees will be provided with an electronic document life-cycle model depicting the life-span of records from creation or receipt to their final disposition.
In organizations that use MOSS 2007, e-mail, Microsoft Office tools, and support multiple legacy ECRM tools, multiple models may be necessary to support the wide variety of information life-cycles and record types that need to be managed. The presentation team will describe these life-cycle models and provide illustrative case and classification rules to show the appropriateness of the information life-cycle model in a large enterprise.
The tutorial will include case studies detailing the paths to ECRM that large organizations have taken and planned to take based on the approach outlined in the session.
