S14 - Federated Records Management: Its Status and Its Future

Robert (Bob) Markham [ View Bio ]
ntara, Inc.

Panel - IBM, CA, EMC, Open Text and Oracle.

The core concept of Federated Records Management (FRM) is the ability to manage records "in-place" (i.e., in their original repositories) utilizing a single vendor's RM software solution. This panel of FRM vendors will discuss how they address four key FRM issues:

  • Functional capabilities ? What key capabilities differentiate their offering from others?
  • Multiple media ? Will their offering manage multiple media, including both electronic and non-electronic records?
  • Record life-cycle management ? Will their offering manage records for the record?s full life-cycle ? from creation through final disposition?
  • Integration with multi-vendor repositories ? How will their offering serve users with multiple-vendor repositories within their global enterprise?
  • Additionally, this session will address the state of FRM, including issues such as:

  • Is FRM a substantive concept that permeates the management of all types of corporate content, or is it merely a sales slogan?
  • What is needed to make the concept of FRM a more plausible approach?
  • What are the future challenges of FRM?
