  • Can your organization meet the new requirements under the amended Federal Rules of Civil Procedure Rules, to easily and quickly describe both the accessible and inaccessible electronically stored information (ESI) it retains?
  • Has an approach, methodology or process evolved that allows your organization to effectively get a handle on where its ESI resides?
  • What are organizations doing to meet the sections of the Rules that define the need for a data map?
  • Does your organization know what format its ESI is in?
  • How easily can the ESI be produced, if at all?

The goal of this session is to provide insights into the methods and means that have been and could be used to address the need for a data map to satisfy the Rules. This session will identify 1) approaches and methodologies to create data maps, 2) how data maps are created and maintained, and 3) how data maps are formatted.

The learning objectives for this session are:

  • Understanding what organizations have done and are doing (or not) regarding producing a data map of both structured and unstructured ESI to meet the new Rules
  • Exploring approaches that have been used and which are best for developing a data map
  • Investigating factors to consider that are related to the data map
  • Preparing an appropriate scope for the development of your organization data map, considering priorities, breadth versus depth and risks versus benefits
  • Moving your organization ahead in order to begin developing its data map
