This tutorial will present the core concepts of records management for organizations of all types and sizes – with special emphasis on electronic records. The program is based on industry standards and practices including ISO 15489 and ISO 23081 as well as best practices.

The objective of this session is to provide participants with an introduction to electronic records management concepts, tools, and processes. Attendees will learn about:

  • Records management terminology and principles,
  • The business drivers for ERM,
  • The lifecycle of records, with focus on electronic records,
  • The sources of records and appropriate capture mechanisms,
  • Current metadata standards, guidelines and practices,
  • Classification concepts and approaches,
  • Records retention schedules,
  • Search and retrieval techniques,
  • Access control and permissions,
  • Determine retention and disposition,
  • Records management technologies,
  • The need for ERM governance, staff and audits,
  • Electronic records storage and Digital preservation techniques.

Those attending this tutorial will receive a training manual and additional supplemental materials including handouts, checklists, templates, and lists of additional resources. You will receive six months of online access to the materials and the online ERM Practitioner exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, you will receive the ERM Practitioner designation.
